In 2000, the first Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon was held with 215 boys and girls participating, ranging in ages from 3 yrs to 15 yrs. In 2001 the event grew to accommodate 315 participants. By 2002 we grew to accommodate 490 participants and each year we’ve continued to expand, with over 800 kids participating in 2008, 900+ in 2009/2010, 1000+ in 2011/2012/2013/2014, and now shooting for 1500 in 2015! We have long been the largest youth triathlon in the country.
Thousands of youth have participated in this nationally recognized, community outreach event.
Charitable contributions of over $100,000 have been made since 2000!
The guiding principle of the Silicon Valley Kid’s Triathlon is two-fold.
To introduce the sport of triathlon to young people in our community in a safe environment; distances are short and intended simply to expose our youngest triathletes to the basic elements of triathlon and to counteract the negative effects of too much television and electronic activity and encourage young boys and girls, ages 4–15, to lead a healthy lifestyle and enjoy the benefits of outdoor activities (i.e., swimming, cycling and running).
Kids helping kids. With a charitable contribution of over $100,000 to our charities, we have a unique opportunity to raise awareness and encourage young people to give back to their community.
The Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon is hosted by the Silicon Valley Triathlon Club, the South Bay’s premier triathlon and multisport club. Joining SVTC is a great way for local active adults to have a fun, competitive, and healthy lifestyle through the sport of Triathlon. Club members receive copious club benefits such as:

We want to thank these parents for sharing their stories with us.
Just wanted to share our gratitude for organizing the SV Kids Triathlon today at De Anza College. My twin 5-year old sons had an amazing time and are already looking forward to participating again next year. This event helped boost their love for athletics and increase their personal self esteem in just finishing the race. We had so much fun today! Thank you for your efforts to make this a wonderful event!
Thanks so much for putting together this wonderful event for the kids. This is the 8th year that my 12 year old son has participated and he looks forward to it every year. Have a great day!
Just wanted to thank you for a great triathlon. I loved how organized and how positive it was.
Hi there Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon Committee,
I just wanted to thank you for yet another wonderfully run race. This is the second year our family has participated, and I have been so pleased at how well you run this race. My husband, Chris, and I are very grateful and happy that our kids can participate in such an exciting and healthy activity, and we know it wouldn’t be possible without your hard work and enthusiasm.
Carol Liou (Parent of Katrina Liou, age 6, and Alex Liou, age 3)
Thank you to you and your club for organizing this event. My two girls really enjoyed themselves.
We just wanted to say thank you for a well organized and fun event. Yesterday was our first experience with the SV Triathalon Club. Our 5 year old participated and he had a wonderful time and he made us so proud. We were quite impressed with the organization of the event from start to finish. We look forward to participating again next year.
I admit I was skeptical when my 8 year old daughter said she wanted to enter the SV Kids Triathlon. She doesn’t participate in other organized sports and really doesn’t like crowds, but we really wanted to support her trying this event out so we signed her up. My 12 year old son also decided to enter.
What a great event! Everyone was so friendly, everything was so well organized and every kid felt like a winner for participating and finishing! Our compliments. Both my children carried their medals around all afternoon and are wearing their t-shirts to school today to show everyone. It was just an all around positive experience. Thanks so much!
First of all, congratulations on a tremendously well run and fun event for the kids. Juliette is looking forward to participating again next year and maybe in a couple of years, baby Philip will join her as well. Hats off to all your volunteers, it is truly amazing the sheer number of people that you have helping out, with smiles on their faces, encouraging the young triathletes along. It was much appreciated.
