Please explore the sections below to become familiar with the pre-event activities including the mandatory bike and helmet check and the optional orientation session.
Mandatory Bike & Helmet Check: July 21st – Aug 4th
Orientation: Aug 4th at 4PM.
Meet at De Anza College Pool
THE PRE-RACE BIKE & HELMET CHECK STARTS July 21st ends on Race Day.
SEE BELOW FOR LOCATIONS
The Pre-Race Bike & Helmet Check is a basic safety check. We are looking for basic issues: is the bike safe and ride-able, do the brakes work, are the handle bars on tightly, and other issues of this nature. This is not a tune-up.
The parent/guardian MUST BRING THE CHILD IN TO CHECK THE HELMET – NO EXCEPTIONS
Bikes and Helmets need to be checked for general safety and that the helmet fits and is worn properly. Upon passing inspections you will get TWO stickers: 1 for the bike and 1 for the helmet. You will need BOTH stickers to be able to pick-up your race packets on race day.
Helmets MUST be CPSC or SNELL approved (SNELL is for Specialized helmets) Bike helmet requirements are a FEDERAL regulation – AND – required under USAT Rules. EN approved helmets are NOT allowed – EN approved helmets are tested at lower standards than required in the US.
NO aero helmet with a “tail” – like a TT helmet – are allowed. NO aero or time trial bars can be attached to the bike.
NOTE: PLEASE do your best to attend the pre-race checks at the shops below. If you do not, you will need to get your bike and helmet approved at the on-site bike check on race day. THERE MIGHT BE AN HOUR LINE JUST FOR THE BIKE CHECK. You cannot pick up your race packet without the TWO approval stickers. Your child can only race in his/her assigned wave.
*We are not responsible if you miss your wave start due to late bike and helmet check approval.

For those parents/guardians and young athletes that are unfamiliar with the De Anza College campus or have questions about the event we will be holding an optional orientation at the college.
Where: De Anza College Pool entrance near Parking Lot C next to the soccer field.
When: Aug 4th (Sat)
We will answer questions and discuss the three events of the triathlon: the swim leg in the De Anza College pool; the bike leg through the De Anza campus roads; and the run on the De Anza College track. The bike course will not be toured due to its length but the exit to and entrance from the bike route will be identified. Parents/guardians may drive the bike course following the orientation. We anticipate that the orientation will take no more than 1-to-1.5 hours.
De Anza College has a $3 per car parking fee. Permits are purchased at meters located in the lots. Meters take dollar bills, coins or credit cards. No change is available so please come prepared.
